If you’re tracking my progress with any of the low-buy & digital minimalism challenges I’m undertaking, you’ll be sad to hear I made a mistake last night.
I felt overwhelmed by the prospect of what was ahead of me (a 3-4 hour journey after an already very long day of focused work)… and to cope, I bought one celsius from the gas station, which did give me energy, but I also bought three poptarts for the comfort. The comfort!
Well, this morning I feel a bit sluggish and am thinking things through and… it feels like most of my issues in life have been coming from having too MUCH stuff.
- Too much junk food.
- Too much media (tv, youtube, internet browsing)
- Too much work, too little play.
- Too much money spent. On what? Did I really need it?
- Too much stuff.
Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity, it gives me peace.
I seek simplicity with my diet. I will eat reasonably clean all the time...
(clean except for 1-2 small treats throughout the day. A cookie at lunch… a small bowl of ice cream at night. I typically don’t eat this stuff like this anyways, I struggle more with binge-eating but it feels like putting this in, at the beginning allows for more flexibility)
… and will allow myself ONE cheat day per week where I eat the real bad shit, in excess, if I want:
- soda
- poptarts
- donuts
- celsius
- etc
Exceptions:
- If I’m at a party (birthday party, etc) I can eat some of the dessert to partake in the bubbly social energy.
I seek simplicity. Help me find it!
